Senior Safety is Our Priority

As a Professional Geriatric Care Manager and from numerous personal experiences, the owner of HomeLife Partners decided to provide the most comprehensive safety program available in Home Care. And she feels so strongly about it that we actually offer these services for free to our clients. For our hourly clients that receive 20 hours or more per week, HomeLife Partners will provide a personal Medical Alert System. When our clients wear the emergency necklace or wristwatch, we know they are protected even when our Caregiver is not there. And for our Live-In 24/7 clients, we are pleased to offer H.E.L.P. HomeLife’s Emergency Link Program. Designed for earthquakes or other natural disasters, H.E.L.P includes 72 hours of emergency supplies for the [...]

H.E.L.P. Emergency Disaster Program

After the tragic natural disasters of recent years we can’t ignore the reality that Southern California is at risk for floods, fires and of course, earthquakes, the only question is when. On January 17, 1994 a 6.7 temblor struck Northridge, CA at about 4:30 AM. At that time, the owners were sleeping in their condo approximately 4 miles from the epicenter of the quake. In the next few hours, there was no telephone or cell service, no power, no gas, no water and fires had broken out all around them. With the understanding that at any time our clients could be put in a similar or even worse situation, we created H.E.L.P. HomeLife’s Emergency Link Program to ensure that our [...]

Senior Safety: Keep Your Purses and Wallets Safe, Watch out for IRS Related Scams!

When you go grocery shopping, do you like to place your purse in the shopping cart? According to the Torrance Police Department, there have been reports of people stealing purses and wallets from unaware shoppers who leave their belongings in the child seat of the cart. The suspects pose as shoppers and follow women until the opportune time to snatch the purse, even holding up a bag or object to block the view of the victim from seeing them stealing from the cart. In other incidents, the suspects would work in pairs to have one person distract the victim while the other steals. Remember to be wary of your surroundings and keep your purses over your shoulders, zipped, and secured. [...]

Get Rid of Unused, Expired Prescription Drugs Sat. 4/26 at CVS 4235 on PCH

According to the Torrance Police Department, the Los Angeles Field Division of the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) has announced the National Take-Back Initiative to help us safely dispose of the old prescription drugs in our cabinets that are no longer being used. Simply drop them off at our local CVS 4235 on PCH this Saturday, April 26th 2014 from 10AM to 2PM. Remember, no syringes or over-the-counter medications - prescription drugs only! Why do we need to minimize the storage of unused prescription drugs in our cabinets? To keep them out of the wrong hands whether it’s someone with Alzheimer’s or Dementia, children, or family members who abuse drugs. The CDC reports that in 2008 there were 14,800 overdose deaths, [...]

HomeLife Partners 72-Hour Emergency Preparedness Kits Roll Out!

For our full-time, 24-Hour Live-In clients, we introduce HomeLife Partners' Emergency Link Program. A while ago, the staff sat together and talked about how natural disasters would impact our seniors and what to do in the event of such an emergency. All South Bay residents know the risks in the area, and that there is a 99% chance a disaster will happen in the next couple of years whether it's earthquakes, floods, wild fires, or landslides just to name a few. More than any other demographic, dependent elderly individuals are most at risk so we want to make sure that our seniors and caregivers are fully prepared. We consulted with South Bay's local authorities, such as the Palos Verdes Police [...]

HomeLife Partners Fights to Save Home Care

On Wednesday, September 4th Karen Galas and her husband Brian flew to our State’s Capitol to meet with legislators in an effort to block two bills that threaten to dramatically increase the costs of homecare and greatly reduce the services that we offer our clients. The bills; AB1217 and AB241 would end longstanding regulations for “live-in” homecare. Currently a caregiver can stay in the home with their client for a 24hr shift but these bills would prohibit that by requiring 3 separate caregivers doing 8 hour daily shifts. This alone could cost our clients 35% more than our current business model. Another section of these bills would require all the names and addresses of our caregivers to be published on a [...]

Understanding Hospice

Hearing the word hospice when it relates to your aging or chronically ill loved one can be incredibly scary. It can drum up all sorts of images that can cause you to become filled with anxiety with the thought of all possible outcomes. Even the most knowledgeable family members can be resistant and apprehensive at the idea of their loved one being provided hospice care which is why it’s important to know what to expect. Hospice care is a personalized health care option for those suffering from a life-limiting or terminal illness. Using hospice care allows a multi-faceted team of professionals to provide pain management, medical attention, and emotional support to both clients and their family members, most often in [...]

4 Reasons Why Seniors Are More Content

We often hear on the news and from family members about the challenges of aging, but if we view the aging process as a cup more than half full, we understand why it’s called the Golden Years. Excluding senior discounts, here are HomeLife Partners’ top aging traits for seniors to brag about. Wisdom – Seniors have seen enough of life to know they don’t know everything (although they usually won’t admit it). They have also endured plenty of valuable, real-life experiences that either replace or confirm old adages, helping them understand what’s most important to them. Worrying Less – According to Gallup’s 2009 telephone interviews among 650,000 individuals, worry drastically declines for seniors compared to younger adults. The study showed [...]
